IN this tutorial I’ll talk about another Autocad command and that is the Polyline. Polyline looks like Line command, but Polyline more powerful than Line. In this tutorial you will learn how to use Polyline and what kind of useful functionality it has.
Polyline can be found on tool ribbon next to Line command in Home tab. You can also call Polyline command by entering PLINE into command line from your keyboard. After activating AutoCAD will ask you Specify first point like in Line command. If you don’t want to set particular point then, click anywhere with mouse left button to start drawing. After you’ll specify first point Autocad will ask you Specify next point or other offered commands. Most of tools in Autocad has it is own additional commands. You can also see these commands by clicking on workspace with right mouse button with active Pline.
These commands can help you work faster just call them while you are drawing an object. Give attention to commands names in command panel. You will see that every command name has a capital letter with a different color.
That means you can call command by entering capital Letter into command panel. Let’s see which commands you can use while working with Polyline and how they can help you work more fast and productive? Here is the command you can call while using Polyline. Arc – As you can understand from name after choosing Arc you’ll able to draw arc without switching to another tool.
Halfwidth – You can give width to drawing the line. You can give different width to the beginning and to the end of the line Length – You can change length of already drawn line Width – You can give width to drawing the line. You can give different width to the beginning and to the end of the line. Undo – Undo last command. This standard command for all tools How Arc tool working with Polyline Arc is very useful command because you can easily draw an arc while you are drawing Polyline without switching. It is very easy, just call Polyline and specify first point. Next, specify next point and before setting third point click mouse right button and choose from menu ARC or enter A into command line from the keyboard.
I'm trying to draw a polyline from two given points and following a specific path (another polyline) otherwise the 2 polylines will be superimposed with VBA AutoCAD or qgis Sub draw_polyline1().
ARC command will be activated and you’ll able to draw an arc with length and radius. After you’ll finish draw arc again click right mouse button and choose Line from menu to start drawing with Polyline. You can notice that right mouse menu is different than first time. That’s is because Arc command has it is own additional commands.
How to use Halfwidth and Width commands If you want to change your drawn polyline width then you can use Halfwidth and Width commands. When you drawing polyline click right mouse button and from the menu choose one of the commands.
After, Autocad will ask you Specify starting width. Enter 10 and hit Enter button. Next, you will be asked Specify ending width. If you will enter same amount as starting width, your line will be straight. But if you will enter different amount then line will look as in image below What is the difference between Halfwidth and Width? If you already try both Halfwidth and Width you can realize that both commands look same.

But they are different. Take a look the image below. So it means that if you will enter 10 to Starting width and 20 to ending width they will look like that. How to use Length command with Polyline Length command is an another useful additional command for polyline. Let’s see how it works.
So imagine that you draw some line and realize that line length is wrong. Of course, you can use UNDO command to undo last action and draw it again. But with Length command, you can make your drawing faster. Draw a polyline and from right mouse menu choose Length or enter L from your keyboard. Autocad will ask you Specify length of line. Enter 5 and hit Enter from the keyboard.
You will see that your already drawn line’s length is changed. In this tutorial, you learn how to draw Polyline and what additional command you can use with it. But all functionality of Polyline not ending.
